Chicago Man Charged in Double Murder of Ex-Wife and Her Husband

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Police arrested a Chicago man for the murders of his ex-wife and her new husband, an Ohio dentist. Michael McKee faces charges after a multi-state manhunt. Court papers link him to the holiday killings.

The victims, Monique Tepe and Spencer Tepe, died from gunshots in their Columbus home on December 30. Their two young kids were safe inside. Cops say the attack happened between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the second floor.

    Arrest and Investigation

McKee lives in Chicago’s Lincoln Park at the 2100 block of North Lincoln Park West. Detectives tracked him using neighborhood video. They spotted a person of interest near the victims’ alley in the key time window. His car led cops to Rockford, 79 miles northwest of Chicago.

A Chicago police cruiser parked outside his home for hours after the arrest. Neighbors felt shocked. One said McKee seemed friendly at pool chats and barbecues. “You never know,” Gera-Lind Kolarik added. McKee and Monique divorced in 2017.

    Reactions from Neighbors and Family

Lincoln Park condo residents call it stunning. Kolarik worried about the orphaned children. “How do you explain that to a kid?” she asked.

The Tepe family praised police in a statement. They thanked Columbus detectives and others for the quick capture. “Nothing undoes the loss, but justice starts today,” they said. A celebration of life happens Sunday. McKee stays in Winnebago County jail. Court date set for Monday.
