Man targeted in alleged murder-for-hire shooting in Beach Park dies, sheriff says

BEACH PARK, Ill. (WLS) — A man who was targeted in an alleged murder-for-hire shooting in the north suburbs has died, officials said on Monday. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said 46-year-old Oscar Ochoa-Tello, of Beach Park, was pronounced dead on Saturday.

Two people have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to kill Ochoa-Tello in a shooting that unfolded on Wednesday morning.

Police said Ochoa-Tello was shot while warming up his vehicle outside of his home in the 38400-block of North Sheridan Road.

Police said Ochoa-Tello’s family member took him to Vista East Medical Center, and he was flown to a level one trauma center. He remained hospitalized in extremely critical condition before being pronounced dead on Saturday.

Sheriff’s detectives reviewed video surveillance from the neighborhood and found a vehicle allegedly linked to the shooting.

Investigators tracked the vehicle’s owner, 28-year-old Cristian N. Ruval-Cavatorres, to his home in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. Police there conducted a traffic stop and took Ruval-Cavatorres into custody later Wednesday.

Lake County sheriff’s detectives say they discovered evidence indicating that someone hired Ruval-Cavatorres to shoot and kill the victim. Detectives executed a search warrant and found the gun they believe was used in the shooting and a phone Ruval-Cavatorres allegedly used to talk with the person who hired him.

Ruval-Cavatorres has been charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. He is being held in the Racine County Jail, pending extradition to Lake County.

Officials did not immediately say whether additional charges will be filed following Ochoa-Tello’s death.

Sheriff’s detectives found the person who allegedly hired Ruval-Cavatorres in North Chicago on Thursday.

Authorities detained that person, a male of an unknown age, in the 1600-block of Park Avenue around 1:30 p.m. He remains in custody, and charges are pending, the sheriff’s office said.

Further information was not immediately available.
