ZION, Ill. — A 17-year-old girl faces charges after stabbing another student at Zion-Benton Township High School. The attack happened Friday morning on campus. Police took the suspect into custody soon after.

The victim, also 17, suffered serious wounds. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital in Libertyville. Doctors listed her in critical condition. A school resource officer spotted the fight and called for backup right away.

    Incident Details

Zion police got the call around mid-morning. The stabbing took place inside school grounds at 3900 West 21st Street. The suspect ran from the scene but officers caught her nearby. No weapon details released yet.

School leaders put the building on “Code Yellow” lockdown. This means stay in place but no big danger. Police swarmed the area for safety checks. Classes kept going with little change. Students dismissed on time.

    School Response

Officials say no ongoing threat to kids or teachers. Counselors on hand for support. Parents got alerts to pick up students normally. What started the fight stays unclear—no word on arguments or history between the girls.

Police investigate motives like bullying or personal beef. This rare violence shocks the north suburb community. Stay tuned for court updates on the suspect. School aims to reopen safely Monday.
